ABOUT ME

I am an artist from Gateshead who studied and practised in London for some time, before moving back to Newcastle.

Stuart Mel Wilson's work explores, the absurdity and the humor in the way we process this world, seems that his artistic focus touches upon various philosophical ideas. One concept that can be explored is the relationship between humans and the natural world, and how we project ourselves onto it. This notion suggests that we tend to interpret the world primarily from a human-centric perspective, often considering our own experiences and beliefs as the default way of being.

 

In addition, the idea of constructing narratives around objects and creating myths can be connected to the broader philosophical theme of perception and interpretation. We often assign meaning and significance to objects based on our own beliefs, experiences, and cultural background. This process of interpretation can shape our understanding of the world and ourselves.

 

The reference to deconstructionism in language theory implies the importance of understanding how language and signs function in our comprehension of reality. It suggests that to truly understand something, like the concept of "red," we need to consider its relational context and the various associations and meanings attached to it. Deconstructionism encourages us to critically examine and question the assumptions underlying our understanding of words, signs, and concepts.

 

Regarding his dyslexia, the mention of it influencing the artist's work highlights the role of personal experiences and challenges in shaping artistic expression. It suggests that art can serve as a medium to communicate and express oneself in ways that words may not fully capture. Art can convey emotions, ideas, and perspectives that might be difficult to articulate verbally.

 

Finally, the focus on curating spaces and creating immersive environments raises ideas about the relationship between art and its viewers. By using traditional techniques and transforming them into installations and sculptural works, the artist seeks to invite viewers into a space where they can engage with the artwork in a holistic and sensory manner. Overall, it seems that Stuart Mel Wilson's work incorporates philosophical themes such as the human experience, perception, interpretation, language, and the expressive power of art. By exploring these concepts, artists can provoke contemplation and invite viewers to reflect on their own relationship with the world, using art to curate a space for the viewer to immerse themselves in doing this with traditional mark making processes. Then turn them into installation and sculptural works. with the intention to take over the make space, subtlety

For the making process, I tend to use found objects then use traditional drawing or mark making (that is conservative in aesthetics but not in my intent).  The use of materials really comes from my desire to not make valuable objects that purely become a commodity and little else matters.

Art must talk where the artist can’t, so this is where I must leave it.
